Server Notes
Things you should know about the new module:
Upon entry, you will notice that you are being given "citizenship papers".
This is part of a world wide system we will be using as we gradually add
new cities and areas.
Almost all the regular game inventory is available someplace in the module.
You will find up to plus one gear just outside of town, and higher gear is
available in other places. The higher items will not be accessible unless
you are a certain level, and have met certain quest requirements.
Up to plus two items are accessible to everyone that completes one of several
quests. The higher, quest related gear includes magic effect staves for mages,
high end armors and various "special effect" weapons of all types. We are
asking players who eventually gain access to high end shops to resist the
temptation to buy for their as yet unqualified friends, as this will spoil
the quest reward system for everyone.
No special effect items will be dropped from monsters anywhere, to prevent the
eyesore of having twenty flaming swords in town at once. Most monsters will
have standard loot. Some of the higher level creatures have the chance to be
carrying magical equipment.
Some roaming NPC's in civilized areas are now pickpocketable...however,
if your skill isn't high enough, you do risk the wrath of the townsfolk and guards.
If you get caught, and can evade them, they will eventually "forget" you. If you
are successful in this, or in picking town locks, you will receive a small amount
of experience rewards. Also, there are various houses in town that have opportunities
for the thievery inclined.
Some doors and most locked chests are bashable. You will see a message above
the door or chest, counting down successful hits on those that are set to work that
way. There is still a problem with player feedback (see the known bug list) but we
decided to go forward on it anyway, in order to allow locked chests for rogues
without depriving those without the picklock skill. All chests will relock in
30 seconds. It will still be impossible to destroy either doors or chests.
The script "breaks the lock" before destruction, so no respawning of chests is necessary.
Chests also comtain treasure for each player once per reset. This allows each member of
the party to open the chest and pull out some random treasure. We've tested this for
the past two years and it really is a fair system.
The looting system has been changed. Random chests with level based loot are being
used in most cases. These chests can only be opened once per reset by any player,
but will immediately respawn for the next player. This means you will find a chest,
get it open, and loot it. If you open the chest again later in the day, you will find
it empty. However, if you are in a group, all members will be able to loot the chest
once immediately. All group members will be able to get thier own loot this way.
Also, if there is another group/player behind you, and he/she hasn't looted that
particular area that day, there will no wait for treasure respawn. No more going to
the crypt and finding empty containers...unless of course, you've already been there
that day. Locked chests will relock in thirty seconds, so if you are with a group,
make sure everyone is lined up to loot, or you will be forced to unlock/bash it open
again.
Many of the chests are now trapped. We have implemented this to give rogues a chance
to use thier skills in dungeons, etc to benefit a party. However, the reset trap
function hasn't been fixed by Bioware yet, so the traps will only work the first
time round. As soon as we find a workaround, this will be changed.
All guards have been removed from battle areas. When you leave the civilized areas,
you are on your own. This was done to prevent the inadvertent guard killing problem
we had in the last mod.
There are no penalties for dying before level 4. At and after level 4, when you
choose to respawn, you will lose 75xp per level, and 20% of your gold. If you choose
not to respawn, and wait for someone to ressurrect you, there will be no penalties
applied. If, you choose to Log Off without Respawning, or having someone
ressurrect you, your character will return dead when you log back in.
Well, that's about it. Only thing left is to have fun!
