Information: The Shand Races
Uncounted centuries ago, small tribes of humans were driven out of lands now
held by the orcs. These tribes found the jungles of their salvation
as unforgiving and dangerous as the orcs. In order to survive, the
shamans of each clan communed with the nature spirits and watched
how the animals of the land survived. The people of the Shandrakkar
clan watched the wolves hunt and live in packs. The Shandrakkir clan
studied the tiger, and its solitary life style. The Shandrakken clan
selected the bear as their template. In this way, each clan hoped
to secure their survival.
After many centuries of living as and amoung the selected animals
of the jungle, the spirit of those animals slowly begin to permeate
the very being of the people, giving them qualities of the animals
they had been mimicking. The jungle spirits slowly changed their features,
and imbue each each races with certain abilities and attributes.
The Shandrakkar live in the western regions of Ben'aan
Rahn in a pack society. There are several clans of
Shandrakkar. Each clan member has their place, or
rank, in the the pack, starting with the alpha who
leads. A shandrakkar clan stays together; they hunt
together, the live together, if there is a problem
with one member, the entire clan is there to help.
If a clan member does something against the clan,
they are demoted in the ranks. If the transgression
is severe, they are sentenced to the worse punishment
known to them...banishment from the clan.
The Shandrakkir hail from the northern portions of
Ben'aan Rahn. The shandrakkir live in very small groups,
although it is not uncommon to find a few living alone.
They are are fierce hunters, maintaining their hunting
grounds from those that would try to take it. Shandrakkir
are also curious. Many lone shandrakkir have been
known to sneak out to watch the way others live, to
see new lands, experience new adventures.
The Shandrakken live in the southern area of Ben'aan Rahn, in groups
of several families. This clan is content with just living life. They
maintain their lands in order that the clan survives. Outside of this,
shandrakken spend time their time with those within their group, retelling
tales of old, reliving stories of old battles with denizens of the
forest and keeping their history and heritage alive. Some shandrakken
are selected to venture out of the clan to learn of new stories and
tales from other peoples.
These new races which have relied so heavily upon the spirits of the
jungle, are not apt with magic. The power of magic affects them more
intensely and frequently than other races. Also, due to their slow
transformation into a more animal nature, their have keen hearing.
This keen hearing can also be a drawback in regards to loud magical
noises, such as that generated from sonic weapons and spells.
