CRPGnet is a Client/Server project that allows players to connect to a server and play
online. CRPGnet uses a very simple, very generic game engine which is easy to learn
and easy to use. And, due to it's flexibility, CRPGnet can be reconfigured fairly
easily to cover a multitude of genres; from Fantasy to Sci-Fi to Modern Day detectives.
The server can be used as a basis for a tabletop-esque type of game, where the Game Master
runs the server, and the players connect to that server. From there, the GM controls all
that the player's see and hear; running the game as if the players were seated around a
table.
The server can also be run as a generic server; allowing anyone to sign on and play.
The plot of the game is controlled by the players; no administrative input is necessary.
CRPGnet's environment is that of a "Beefed Up" chat interface. Your character stats are
displayed, along with the actions you may perform. A list of the available "rooms" is
displayed (with the number of people in each room) and a list of players currently in
your room. You can double-click on any person to get more information, such as Race, Class
and a character portrait. Once you have selected someone, you can begin to interact;
either through spells, combat or merely going through their pockets.
Server Operators act as game masters; setting the tone of the server, sometimes creating
a scenario for the players to go through in the form of quests, missions or adventures.
The Game Master can reward or penalize any player for making a right or wrong decission in
these matters, so choose wisely.
Logging onto a CRPGnet Server is like journeying to another realm. These realms are what
you make of it, be it good or for evil. One thing every player has in common, is the
enjoyment of Role Playing and interacting with other characters. Press On!
This is the inital release of CRPGnet. It has full functionality,
but bare-bone graphics and sound. If you are an artist, and would like
to contribute any artwork, sounds or music that you have written, you
have the ability to add them into the CRPGnet Client and Server.
If anyone would like to test out the Server Application by hosting it on a dedicated
Internet Connection, it would also be greatly appreciated. The server application is
in the Downloads Section, feel free to try it out.
The final version of CRPGnet is released, free to all. I do not make
any promises or guarantees for this software. I have tested CRPGnet
extensively on System 7.5 and OS 8.0 (and higher) with no problems.
This does not rule out the possibility for problems to arise due to
operating system enhancements or other applications running concurrently.
There are currently no plans to port this application over to the PC
or Windows. My attention has been diverted to programming on the PC,
but the current project I am working on is still in the Design Phase.
I will post to this web site when I have a basic application ready to
fly. Until then, please enjoy CRPGnet!
