Built in 1720, Benedict Parsonage still stands today close to the Washington Rochambeau Revolutionary Route.

A Historical Timeline

 1720 The House is Built.
 Jun 18, 1781-
 Jun 22, 1781
The French Army, under command of General Rochambeau, camped in Plainfield on its march frrom Newport, RI to Virginia.  The camp site is marked by a plaque about 450 feet north of the parsonage.
 1775-1799 Samuel Fox.
- Purchasing Agent for the Continental Army.
- Representative in the Legislature (of Connecticut).
- Trustee of the Plainfield Academy.
 (1784-1816?)

Pastor Joel Benedict
- Jan 1745 - Feb 1816.

 

Dr. Theodore Wing
- Jun 15, 1837-Sep 8, 1914.
- Lived in the Parsonage for only 2 years.
- Operated Wing's Medicines (Wing's Salve, Oriental Balsam).
- Owned a granite quarry in New York.
- Married Mary E. Young on Oct 15, 1862.
- Had 1 daughter, Iola Wing, born Jun 22, 1863.

 Sep 02, 1815 The mammoth elm try in the front yard of the parsonage (which had a circumference of 14 feet) was blown over in a hurricane.
